Photoshoots: Birds of a Feather

Hallo everyone!

white

I’ve been looking forward to sharing this beautiful shoot with you for a while now, but we all had to be very patient and wait until it had been featured on We Fell in Love.

The original idea for the shoot came up very naturally, during a lively chat over coffee and cake (like many of the best ideas!) between three of the shoot team. The idea seemed fresh, vibrant and full of possibilities – perfect for a spring shoot.

We were keen to work with like-minded creatives, who would be interested in, and open to, exploring ideas with the other members of the team as well as in their own work, so we started asking friends, colleagues and industry professionals, whose work we knew and admired.

At this point we also started to narrow down colours, and decided on soft grey, coral and silver. A good part of the team then set to work designing and making their individual contributions, checking in with everyone to discuss ideas or seeing how everything was progressing and coming together.

Almost from the very beginning, we knew that we had found our perfect location. Two of the original shoot team went to visit Craigton House (on the Hopetoun Estate, near Edinburgh) very early on in the whole process. We were so bowled over by it all, including the very warm welcome that Angela, James, and Macauley (their West Highland Terrier) gave us, that we knew instinctively that this would be the right place for the shoot. On the day of the shoot, a couple of months later, the house and grounds could not have looked more beautiful in the early spring sunshine.

It was important to us that our models be a couple in real life, as we wanted the shoot to have a very relaxed and intimate feel, and to reflect the feeling of the beautiful house and grounds we were going to be shooting in. We were delighted when Mandy and Mark agreed to model for us! They each have their own creative practice, and I’ve included links to both of them below if you would like to find out more about what they do.

I hope you enjoy seeing the end results and find them inspiring. You can see a full list of shoot contributors at the very end of this post. There are also a couple of links to other blogs where the shoot has been featured (with more images from it too).

As well as our fantastic photographers, we were joined by super-talented videographer, Steven from Gryffe Weddings. He made this rather lovely video of the day, which really manages to capture the very light, playful and whimsical feel of the shoot:

A huge and very heartfelt thank you to James, Angela and Macauley for welcoming us so warmly into their home, and for helping make our shoot the wonderful experience that it was!
